:innsikt [insight] is a non-profit organization that offers the program «Freedom from the inside» for inmates in Norwegian prisons.

The aim of the program is to facilitate rehabilitation of inmates through teaching and reflective conversations so as to reduce the chance of the participants to reoffend.

The method used in this program differs from other programs in that it focuses on unexplored potential already within the person instead of treating or trying to change undesirable behaviour.

«Freedom from the inside» is approved by the KDI (Norwegian Correctional Service) and recommended by KRUS (Norwegian Correctional Services college & education centre).

THE PROGRAMS OBJECTIVES

The program aims to introduce a new understanding of our psychological functioning, which in turn gives a new understanding of life and new ways of dealing with life.

Goals for the program participants:
•  A new understanding of how our own reality and experience is created. When our thoughts and feelings change, and we see things differently, we do things differently.

• An experience of wellbeing and a renewed confidence in life.

• A reduction in anxiety and anger.

• A new perspective on relationships that opens for a better understanding of oneself and others.

• See the past in a new light.

THE PROGRAM

This program is inspired by and based on similar programs carried out in prisons in the USA and UK.

• Voluntary participation
• Groups of ca. 10 participants
• Classes of 2 hours per week, for 10 weeks
• The program can be adjusted according to the needs of the prison.

Participant participation: Inmates who have experienced change in their lives and wish to share this understanding with others have the possibility of participating as assistants and receive extra follow-up.

A deep respect for the individual and a belief in their potential is a key factor in our work.

:innsikt

The program is «value-neutral» and has no religious affiliation.

:innsikt is based on the premise that change starts with a changed inner understanding, that is manifested in changed thoughts, feelings and choices.
